AssalaamuAlikum
Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatu
My
name is Sumreena Hussain and I will be teaching 6th grade, Language
Arts and Social Studies. I welcome
you to another exciting year of
learning and exploring and to tell you a little bit about my teaching philosophy
and myself.
I
earned my Bachelors of Art in Psychology at the University of Michigan in 1997.
I decided, however, that the best profession for me is teaching.
Therefore, I went back to U of M and obtained my certification for teaching Elementary School. My
specialization was Language Arts and Social Studies.
In August of 2000, I was married and I moved to California.
I have taught 6th grade at Granada Islamic School for two and
half years.
I
believe that teaching is one of the most rewarding professions.
As a teacher, I hope to influence students in a positive manner and
inspire them to be the best person that they can be.
I believe that each child should be given the opportunity to learn in an
environment that will enhance his/her desire to learn.
As a student, I had a teacher that made me realize that learning is not a
chore. Through her creative ways
she made learning relative to my life and this changed the way I viewed myself
and the world. I aim to have the
same impact on the students I teach, Insha’Allah.
I want to be a positive role model for them because there seems to be a
lack of living Muslim role models.
I
believe that a teacher just does not teach, but he/she helps students to learn
how to apply knowledge to their real lives.
A teacher helps a students to empower them how to think, solve problems,
and to form their own opinions. Insha’Allah,
I will try my best to be one of those teachers and to succeed in these goals.
Insha’Allah
this year, we are going to explore ancient worlds and learn about different
civilizations in Social Studies. In
Language Arts, we will lose ourselves in the creative works of renowned writers,
critically evaluating it and form our own styles of writing.
Once
again 'WELCOME'
